Tim Bresnan out of test series against New Zealand

Fast bowler Tim Bresnan has been ruled out of England’s upcoming test series in New Zealand because of a right elbow injury, with the uncapped Chris Woakes coming in as a replacement.

It is the only change to the 15-man test squad from the recent series in India, where England won 2-1.

South Africa poses a big challenge, Misbah

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq Friday admitted his team’s series next month against top-ranked South Africa poses the biggest challenge of his three-year tenure.

Pakistan play three Tests, the first starting in Johannesburg on February 1, followed by two Twenty20 internationals and five one-day matches.

Misbah-ul-Haq

Since taking over as captain after the spot-fixing controversy in England in 2010, Misbah has led Pakistan admirably, squaring Test series against South Africa (2010) and the West Indies before beating Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka (all in 2011) and routing then world-number-one England 3-0 in January last year.

He has lost only one Test series, in Sri Lanka last year.

But Misbah said playing a Test series in South Africa will be a sterner challenge.

“A Test series in South Africa will be one of the biggest challenges of my captaincy tenure but I am confident that if Pakistan plays to its potential then we can pose a serious challenge to South Africa,” Misbah told reporters.

Misbah said Pakistan, ranked fourth in Test cricket, face tough conditions in South Africa where wickets are greener and bouncier than back home.

“The conditions in South Africa will be different because we have mostly played our cricket in Asia and our home series in United Arab Emirates, so we have to cope with that also” said Misbah.

With international cricket suspended in Pakistan since a terror attack targeted the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009, Misbah has not led Pakistan in any home Test matches.

He said: “The last few years have been a big challenge for Pakistan cricket and the players have come through well most of the time.

“But this is a tour where we have to play our best cricket and I am confident that players will do that.”

Pakistan’s much-vaunted bowling attack would be key to their success, he added.

“We have a balanced bowling attack and until now our spinners have come through for us,” said Misbah of spin duo Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman who shared 43 wickets between them against England last year.

“I think it is the turn of the pace bowlers to deliver. I am confident that players like Umar Gul and Junaid Khan will be our strike bowlers and we have a good spin backup in Saeed Ajmal,” he said.

Besides Gul and Khan, Pakistan have selected lanky paceman Mohammad Irfan and rookie uncapped fast bowler Ehsan Adil for the tour.

Misbah said Pakistan needed to play at its best to compete against South Africa.

“South Africa is world’s best team and have one of the best pace attacks in the world so we have to be at our best. If we can post decent totals in the Tests I know our bowlers will deliver,” said Misbah.

Jamshed, Younus partnership sealed victory, lead series 1-0

One unit display of Pakistan team in all three parts of the game sealed victory over India at Chennai. Pakistan leading the series by 1-0. Nasir Jamshed’s confident and matured innings was a perfect reply to MS Dhoni’s 113 runs. Here’s how the story is:

Bhuvneshwar Kumar make a dream debut here at Chennai. He clean bowled Mohammad Hafeez to the very first ball of the Pakistani innings. He started just like he did in Bangalore. That wall was a big inswinger from outside the off stump and Hafeez thought he was just letting a harmless delivery go, but this one came in and took the off stump out. The stumps take another battering and an excellent start for Bhuneshwar in ODI cricket.

B Kumar kept his pressure on Pakistani batsmen and as a result of it Azhar Ali given up by playing a loose shot on his ball. He scored 9 runs.

Younus Khan and Nasir Jamsheed then took over the charge and brought Pakistan from the surviving condition to the confident to stand. Younus Khan and Nasir Jamshed stand together and added 121 runs for the third wicket partnership. Younus Khan reached to his 48th ODI half-century and 7th against the India. Ashok Dinda got rid of him on 58 runs.

Nasir Jamshed set 4th wicket partnership with captain Misbah Ul Haq of 39 runs. Pakistan were 172 when Ishant Sharma bowled out captain Misbah on 16.

5th wicket partnership carried till the end of innings as Shaoib Malik

Bhuvneshwar Kumar sealed 2 wickets for 11 runs while Ashok Dinda took 1 for 29 runs. Ishant Sharma took 1 wicket

Dhoni’s century fades Junaid’s wickets haul

Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan displayed an ideal show for their Pakistani fans as they did what  skipper Misbah Ul Haq and coach wanted from them.

Misbah winning the toss, decided to bowl first and put India to bat at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai. Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan provide Pakistan a perfect start. Just what Misbah and team looked for. Umpires really had to exercise for installing the stumps for the first hour as these two fast bowlers removed the four top batsmen by cleaning their stumps.

Junaid Khan had 4/9 at stage while MS Dhoni who was dropped on 16, scored 113 not out

Junaid Khan had 4/9 at stage while MS Dhoni who was dropped on 16, scored 113 not out

India were at 17 when they loose Virender Sehwag, Junaid bowled a length delivery on the middle stump and its swings in to Sehwag, who tries to push it to cover without covering the line of the ball, the ball drives through the gap and crashed into off and middle.

Mohammad Irfan registered his first ODI wicket by removing Gotham Ghambirin the very next over. He bowled him out on 8.

Junaid Khan removed Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh in his 3rd over. At this stage, India were 20/4. Means that India lost its top four batsmen with only 3 runs added.

Mohammad Hafeez took a one handed catch at the third slip and showed Rohit Sharma his way to pavilion. Junaid had taken his 4th wicket.

At this stage, India had lost his half of the side. Skipper MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina took the charge and prevent Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan to further damaged the Indian batting lineup. MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina established 6th wicket partnership of 73 and brought India to the respected position. Just after India crossed three figure, Mohammad Hafeez bowled Suresh Raina out on 43 runs.

MS Dhoni played a real captain innings, although he was dropped on 16 by captain Misbah, yet he gained the opportunity and marked his 8th century. He started with turtle walk innings and ended up with an aggressive innings. He had no mercy for Irfan and Junaid who were dominating at the startup. He remian not out at 113. Ashwin scored 31 off 39 runs.

Junaid Khan, although did not effective in the second spell as he did in the first spell, got 4/43 in 9 overs while Mohammad Irfan got 1/58 in 9 overs. Mohammad Hafeez 1/26 with 2 maiden while Ajmal and Umar Gul remain wicketles with 42 in 10 overs and 38 in 8 overs respectively. Pakistan need 228 runs in 50 overs to win the first Airtel ODI match.

India likey to tour Pakistan in August 2013

Karachi, Dec 27: With an intention of hosting India in August next year, the Pakistan Cricket Board has convinced its West Indies counterpart not split the national team`s scheduled tour to the Caribbean and instead play a full series in July.

The sources in the PCB confirmed that Pakistan will now be travelling to the West Indies in July 2013 to play a full series of two Tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 International.

“The problem is now sorted out and our team will be touring (Windies) in July as planned earlier,” a source said.

CRICKET-INDIA-PAKISTAN-FANS

The tour had ran into trouble when the West Indies cricket board suggested to the PCB to either postpone the series by a few weeks or to split the tour as they wanted to host India and Sri Lanka for a short ODI series, also in July.

But the PCB insisted on the tour in July as it is planning to convince the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to play a series in August when both teams have windows open in the period in the ICC future tours programme.

“Pakistan is very hopeful and keen that India can be convinced to come to Pakistan because India has made it clear it does not have a policy of playing any bilateral series in a third country,” the source said.

He said due to good connections and relations that the PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf has with the government and authorities and because of the confidence reposed in him by the board`s chief patron, President Asif Zardari, the board was hopeful it could get the government to give an assurance of foolproof security for the Indian team.

“Since bilateral ties have resumed after five years (as India and Pakistan are playing each other currently in India) and presently there is lot of positivity in relations between the two boards, there is a good chance that India might listen to the suggestion of playing in August,” another source said.

Ashraf is due to leave for India later this week where he is expected to have discussions with officials of the BCCI. Pakistan has not hosted any Test side at home since March, 2009 when militants attacked the Sri Lanka cricket team in Lahore.
