Indian batsman Virat Kohli was on Sunday rendered a doubtful starter for the second One-Day International (ODI) against Pakistan to be held in Kolkata on Thursday after he suffered a foot injury in the first match at Chennai.

Kohli suffered the injury while bowling the 41st over of Pakistan’s run chase. His backfoot slipped in the delivery stride and he landed on his knees. He limped off the field and Suresh Raina finished off the last ball of the over.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said Kohli’s condition will be monitored and a decision on his availability for the second ODI will be taken over the next couple of days.

“Virat Kohli, who sustained a foot injury while bowling in the first Airtel ODI against Pakistan at Chennai earlier today, underwent an MRI scan after the game,” BCCI Secretary Sanjay Jagdale said in a release.

“All his major ligaments are fine. There is minimal injury fluid in his knee. He will recover after treatment. His condition will be monitored, and a decision on whether he will play the second Airtel ODI at Kolkata on 3 January 2013, will be taken over the next couple of days,” the release said.

‘Not to follow BCCI blintly’ Ex-ICC President Ehsan Mani

Former International Cricket Council (ICC) chief Ehsan Mani has advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to refrain from blindly following the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) without putting forward its own point of view.

The BCCI has invited Pakistan for a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series in December, ending the five-year hiatus. While it was PCB”s turn to host the series, the Pakistan board refused to go into the debate of revenue-sharing, saying its first priority was to revive cricket with India, reports The Express Tribune.

The BCCI is expected to earn millions of dollars from the short series, gauged from the fact that television rights will be sold at an estimated 25 million dollars. The PCB, which is facing a budget deficit, will not get a share for the series.

However, Mani added that the PCB should have been involved in decision making as well.

“It is concerning to see that the BCCI solely took the decision. Their working committee discussed it and their board decided it on their own without consulting the PCB. They blindly followed what the BCCI conveyed to them. The officials showed a lack of competence by saying yes without putting forward the board”s point of view,” Mani said.

“However, as far as the resumption is concerned, it will be good for world cricket, fans and help in bridging gaps between the two countries,” he added

Ijaz Butt urges PCB to ask for compensate with BCCI

LAHORE: With the removal of old man Ijaz Butt as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief last year, it seemed that ‘black days’ of Pakistan cricket were over. But Ijaz still wants to be in the limelight even at the cost of Pakistan-India cricket ties that have recently been revived by PCB chief Chaudhary Zaka Ashraf’s hectic efforts. In his recent statement, Ijaz has insisted that Pakistan must ask the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to compensate it financially for the cancelled series of 2009.

“It is a good thing that finally the BCCI has invited Pakistan to play a short series this year in India. But my concern is, the PCB needs to gain something more out of the series than the resumption of ties,” Ijaz was quoted as saying.

The PCB has already accepted the invitation from the BCCI to tour India in December to play three-match ODI series and two Twenty20 matches. It would be the first bilateral series between the two countries after India suspended cricketing ties with Pakistan following the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 and cancelled a full Test tour to the neighbouring country in early 2009.

A PCB spokesman, however, said that Pakistan would not be discussing sharing of revenue generation for the series as its only interest was to see bilateral cricket ties revived.
