PCB is no longer deal with Mushtaq Ahmed

The PCB looks no longer in deals with former native spinner Mushtaq Ahmed to head Pakistan’s bowling dept. as the English cricket board has extended Mushtaq’s tenure till year 2014

Mushtaq Ahmed will serve to England team till 2014

“The ECB has extended my contract till 2014 as their spin bowling consultant and I will rejoining the England team for the ICC T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka after the Ramazan break,” Mushtaq told PTI.

“The PCB might not want to recognize my qualifications and experience but the ECB has extended my contract,” he said.

Mushtaq, who captured 185 Test and 161 one-day wickets for Pakistan said he had been keen to work with the PCB and Pakistan team as bowling coach.

“I had a meeting with the board Chairman but I had told him clearly that I was not running after any job as by grace of Allah I was well set with the ECB and England team,” Mushtaq said.

“But definitely being a former Pakistan player I would love to contribute to the growth of Pakistan cricket but the board has its own ideas,” he said.

The PCB has been hunting for a bowling coach for the last few months even before they appointed Dave Whatmore as the head coach in March and also brought in Julian Fountain as the fielding coach.

PCB plans Grand Award Ceremony to attract foreign attention

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to hold a grand awards ceremony on the lines of the International Cricket Council (ICC) annual awards in the country in October this year to attract foreign attention.

“The idea is to showcase the positive side of Pakistan cricket and its talent on annual basis and utilise the awards ceremony to invite foreign guests as well,” a source said.

He said PCB was keen to resume international cricket in Pakistan and believed one way towards this was to have dignitaries from the ICC and other boards attending the PCB awards ceremony.

“The board wants to organise its ceremony on a grand scale with cash prizes being awarded in different categories similar to the ones in the ICC awards,” the source added.

He pointed out that the PCB already had a system in place to offer financial incentives and bonuses to players who excel individually.

“They already give financial incentives to players for scoring a century, half century, taking five or four wickets, catches in different formats of the game,” he said.

“Companies have been invited to submit details of their concepts for such a ceremony,” added another source.

He said the board also expected to generate some income from its annual awards as it would sell the broadcasting rights and other rights of the ceremony to a successful bidder.

“PCB chief Zaka Ashraf is keen to hold high-profile cricket activities in the country at a time when international teams are not touring Pakistan because of security concerns.

He feels this would be a good way to present the soft image of Pakistan and its cricket,” he said.
